Influence Analysis of DC Cooling Fan Bearings

There are many factors that cause noise in electronic cooling fans, including fan speed, fan size, fan dynamic balance, operating environment, and so on. One of the most important factors is the type of fan bearings, such as hydraulic bearings, ball bearings, magnetic suspension bearings, etc. What effect do these bearings have on the quietness and service life of the DC cooling fans? 1. The analysis of bearing of DC cooling fans


It is generally recommended to use the ball bearing as the bearing system of the fan, because the service life of the DC cooling fans usually depends on the reliability of its bearing. The ball bearing system has been proved to have the characteristics of high efficiency and low heat generation.


Ball bearings belong to rolling friction type, which are rolling by metal balls, with a small contact surface and a small friction coefficient. While oil bearings belong to sliding friction type, with a large contact surface. After long-term use, the oil will volatilize, the bearing is easy to wear, the friction coefficient is large, and the later noise is large and service life is short. In addition to the large ventilation volume and high wind pressure, the reliability of good-quality DC cooling fans is also very important. The bearing type used by the DC cooling fans is very important here.


High-speed cooling fans always use ball bearings, while low-speed fans use low-cost oil bearings. Oil bearing fans only use one bearing, while ball bearing fans require two bearings. The single ball bearing which is "1Ball + 1 Sleeve", still with the components of oil bearings. More advanced than single balls are double ball bearings, or Two Balls. The service life of oil bearing is generally 10,000 hours, that of the single ball bearing is 30,000 hours, and that of the double ball bearing is more than 50,000 hours (when the ambient temperature is set below 25°C).


2. Oil bearings of DC cooling fans


The oil bearing used in the electronic cooling fan is sintered from copper-based powder. The oil bearing needs to be lubricated to reduce the sliding friction. The lubricating oil is prepared from lithium-based grease and special oil.


With long-term operation, the oil in the bearing will volatilize and dry out, the friction coefficient will increase, the operation of the electronic cooling fan will be affected. Then abnormal noise may occur, and the speed may be slow or the fan will even not be rotating. If the ball bearing is used, then the sliding friction is replaced by the rolling friction, and the friction coefficient is small. Thus the shortcoming that the friction coefficient is easy to change is overcome, so the operation stability is strong and the service life is relatively much longer.
